CLASS NAME Novel Writing
FACULTY: MARIA DE LOURDES VICTORIA
DESCRIPTION
We all have a story to tell. Sooner or later, the desire to write it compels us to the white page –or the white screen- and it is only then we realize that we have no idea where to start. To write a novel you need more than a good story: you must also know how to tell it. In this class, we will use a number of exercises to study the tools every writer must use to write a compelling novel. You will learn to give shape and form to the story you have longed to tell.
OBJECTIVES
To acquire basic novel writing techniques
To understand, through practice, the most useful tools for novel writing
To create a working outline and to develop a first, solid chapter
METHODOLOGY
In their online classroom, students will receive six lessons and six corresponding assignments that cover the following subjects: synopsis, plot outline, character development, narrative voice, and dialogue.
You will learn to organize your thoughts and ideas, identify resources, employ techniques that best move the story forward, and pay close attention to style, space, and time. You will also learn how to choose your scenes, build tension, and maintain your readers’ interest.
REQUIREMENTS
A commitment to write because you must write.
